Job Description – Process Engineer

 

Overview of Company

 At Origen, our vision is “the atmosphere, restored”. We aim to be the global leader in carbon dioxide removal solutions.

To achieve this, we have developed technologies that can decarbonise the global lime industry, avoiding 400 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. These technologies can then be developed further to enable at scale carbon dioxide removal, potentially at the scale of billions of tonnes.

We have recently closed a significant seed funding round from several prominent family offices, have won two large government grants focused on decarbonisation and carbon removal, and have an exciting pipeline of projects in front of us.

Our flagship project is to build and operate a pilot plant in partnership with Singleton Birch, the UK’s leading independent lime manufacturer. The plant will demonstrate Origen’s core technology to produce zero-carbon lime and will be followed by commercial scale projects.

We are also working with Tate & Lyle Sugars to conduct an engineering study for the complete decarbonisation of a sugar refinery. This will pave the way for the possibility of carbon-negative sugar production.

Origen will be scaling rapidly and growing the team through 2021 and we are looking for talented individuals with a passion for restoring the atmosphere.

The Role

 Support Origen to develop and deliver new kilns, based on oxy-fuel calciner technology as a route to zero carbon lime production

Key focus on efficiency, continuous improvement and problem solving; leading and coaching problem solving through root cause analysis

What you’ll be doing

  • Testing current and new processes
  • Using process simulation software to work out the best methods
  • Collecting data required to make improvements and modifications
  • Ensuring that the products work to its specification and to appropriate capacities
  • Develop and implement Process Engineering systems and standards
    Identify, develop and deliver continuous improvement activities and plant modifications
  • Identify and investigate new technologies and opportunities to improve current and future processes.
  • Identify and define opportunities for engineering projects, prepare and present proposal to key stakeholders, including detailed feasibility studies
  • Liaising with key stakeholders and specialists within the project and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of
    • CAD/CAM/Drawing software and drafting procedures
    • MatLab
    • project planning (GANTT charts, critical path analysis and project software tools).
